Living the Christian life can be confusing for some. People who are either caught up in false doctrine, or newly saved.
For example, is salvation through faith alone or not? (Gal 2:16). Is there something I must do to remain saved? (2 Cor 5:19). If I mess up does that mean I am not saved? (Rom 3:28-29). Because salvation is through faith alone we must realize there's nothing we can do to earn or keep our salvation.
Faith in Christ is the foundation of the Christian life. The foundation for your very soul is to be at rest is faith in Christ; not in your works.
(Matt 16:14;Rom 4:5).
On the Sabbath people were forbidden to do any work what so ever.
In the Old Testament people were put to death for working on the Sabbath. (Ex 31:15).
Because the rest, the rest for our soul is in Christ.
Salvation is through faith alone in Christ alone. The Sabbath was a shadow of Christ and the rest we have in him. (Col.2:17).
Behavior modification is something that makes one feel good. But inside some are still dying. Dying to understand that the lack of faith in the one whom they claimed to put their faith into is at contention with simply trusting, resting in the finished work of Christ. (Gal 3:5-6,5:2:26;Rom 5:1; Heb 4:1).
Rest in the finished work on the cross. "For what I received I passed on to you as of first importance[a]: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, 4 that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures, (1 Cor 15:3-8)."
The next time you doubt your salvation look towards the cross and what Christ did for you while you were yet a sinner. And, rest in Christ's finished work.
